My honest impressions of the Corey series:

Corey Stuck in Purgatory is a very...

"Punk" does not equal "not trying."

Okay, so you start off with one drawing of a girl, which is okay. But then you barely move any part of her at all. That's cheap. And sad. I don't know a lot about the whole Riot Grrrl movement, but I'm guessing punk dancers in a mosh pit or music video probably jump around a little bit whne doing their thing.

The middle of the video seemed more promising, with lots of crazy imagery. Sure, it was mostly simple motion tweening, but it showed some inspiration, and presumably it took some effort to draw all that stuff. (I'm assuming you drew it on paper and scanned it, and not that you merely scanned a CD jacket or downloaded those sketches from the band's website.)

You even managed to work the feminist angle in there with the thing sprouting from the man's neck that looked like it was gonna be another flower, but then it turned out to be a fetus. I thought that was pretty deep, for a music video. Kinda metaphorical.

But then you had to go and ruin it the way Newgrounds noobs always do, by quitting 1/3 of the way through the song. What the fuck is wrong with you? Did you suddenly run out of angst? This music video was a good idea, implemented with challenging imagery, but then you fucking quit. Nobody likes a fucking quitter. Finish the damn thing, you fucking loser.

When's the last time you saw a punk video where a bunch of kids at the mall rose up, cast off the shackles of the man, smashed up their jobs, and then took to the streets to stop the big CEO's monolithic corporate office, only to get bored halfway there and disperse peacefully? Because that's what you did by quitting this project before it was finished. You went "FUCK THE MAN! Ehhh, you know what, never mind."

You can do better. Now get off your ass and finish it! :D

McGovern responds:

I will finish it. I just started flash animation, like, two days ago.

Even more incomprehensible than he next one.

I watched part 2, then travelled back in time to watch part 1, thinking maybe somehow it would make part 2 make morse sense. But now I'm more confused than ever. I think I'm going to suspend mu disbelief at this point, so my disbelief can go home and have a good lie down. Cheers.

BritishMoose responds:

Yeah, I'm not really going for the whole 'comprehensive story line and character development' thing with this project :)
Get well soon!

Wait, it's shelved? What does that mean?

So let me get this straight. You finished making the movie, got it screened at a film festival... and THEN it died? How is that even possible? You finish the movie, the movie's done. It's over. You won. Wrap party. And if you're going to sit there and tell me it that it somehow died AFTER BEING COMPLETED because "this is the real world" or "you're dealing with the realities of the industry," then you need to get your ass OUT of the mainstream industry and start distributing your shit on the web. Where there is no failure, only success modest enough to be mistaken as failure! :P

Seriously, Jonathan Coulton gives away his music for free online, and then people who've heard it come to his website and buy it from him. If he can do that with MP3s, give me one good reason why you can't do it with a SWF.

Reminds me of Maple Story.

Yep, you can't be too careful when going after a Warthog. Of course, it's easy for two people to share a Warthog, but a warthog moving at top speed is hard to catch. Sure enough, once the warthog hit a tree and flipped over, they were able to catch it.

You should make the next episode be about a Banshee...

I actually thought the pacing was pretty solid.

A lot of people complained about it being too slow, but I think this is one of those instances where a measured pace helps the Flash instead of hurting it. It went well with the music, which I found very hauntingly beaufitful and a little tense in places. I'm disappointed that you left the thing with the Easter Island Headlight Monster unresolved, but other than that it was good stuff. While I'm at it, I might as well compliment you on the way the kids looked. Most artists on newgrounds either copy and existing drawing style or deliberately make everyone fugly. You did neither. The style you chose was simple, but aesthetically pleasing and, as far as I know, unique to this Flash. So points for that. The colors were very subdued but again it went along with the music, and it also tied in with it being winter. Actually, a lot of things all came together in this Flash to build upon each other. All the parts form a cohesive whole. Good job. :)

IT'S ALL HAPPENING AGAIN!

Okay, the animation and coloring are pretty minimalist, and the music was kinda iffy and the voice sounded really amaturish, but you get 10 points and a fiven just for that last Oni joke. What can I say, I'm easy to please.
